At this point in time, taxpayers still have the option of physical submission using the original form to declare their VAT return. However, this is set to change next year. The Federal Tax Administration is taking a further step in the direction of digitization and is changing from paper to online accounting.
With the change, the automatic delivery of the paper bill by the FTA is no longer necessary. In future, this will only be sent upon written request.
The ESTV SuisseTax platform is already used by almost half of all taxpayers. In order to make it easier for the remaining 50% to switch to online entry, the FTA is planning to activate an additional, simplified platform called “VAT accounting easy”.
The changeover is planned for the course of 2020.
